General Driving Tips and Vehicle Resources
The ability to drive a car is a privilege that many if not most Americans take advantage of. Often, people begin driving during their teen years and do not stop until health or other circumstances prevent them from continuing. Although there are other means of transportation available, the ability to drive oneself provides a level of freedom unlike any other. Unfortunately, driving is also an activity that entails a certain level of personal risk. Car crashes are not just harmful; they are one of the leading causes of injury in the nation, according to the CDC. To reduce the chances of becoming involved in a car accident, drivers can follow certain general driving tips. These tips include basic guidelines, such as wearing appropriate safety restraints and having children sit in child car seats that are appropriate for their age and weight. Another basic but invaluable driving tip is to never drive while tired or intoxicated, as it can very easily lead to legal consequences, injury, or death. Distractions can be equally deadly and should be avoided at all cost when operating a vehicle. Driving distractions can include texting, talking on the phone, and even something as simple as eating. Before getting on the road, a driver should ensure that a car's lights and signals are working properly, tire pressure is correct, windows and mirrors are clean and clear, and that fluids are at the appropriate levels. Another tip is to check both road and weather conditions, whether driving to work or on vacation. This allows drivers to avoid high traffic areas and alerts them to poor weather conditions such as high winds, heavy rain, or even snow. While accidents may still happen, following these general rules can go a long way in terms of reducing their likelihood.
