"2101"

in the light of the morning
the ancient sun is rising against the sky
it always comes without warning
the day is gone before you can say goodbye
      ~ say goodbye .......

i climb into my rocket ship
    in the year 2101
i'm getting ready for my journey
to the far side of the sun

no one knows what lies in store for me
my long journey has just begun
i may die in a distant galaxy
or even crash into the sun

i can see the stars glimmer through my tears
n the lights that allways shine
i can see the picture of your face
thats still etched into my mind

why did god send me to this destiny
our life together had just begun
yes I may die in a distant galaxy
i may not survive the journeys run

when will i be free again
    to walk among the trees
i long to touch your skin
    but its only a memory
i wish that i wasnt human
i wish that i couldnt cry
i wish that i had the power
to never have to say goodbye
      ~ say goodbye .......

well now my journeys over girl
and i'm on my way back home
youve probably found yourself another man
you couldnt take all those years alone
why did god send me to this destiny
our lives together had just begun
i flew my way across distant galaxies
and i still survived this journeys run

I can see the light of a million years
n the stars that always shine
I can see the picture of your face
thats still etched into my mind

~ Story ~

This was the signature tune and usually the highlight of the night for the 80s east side suburbs of Detroit based three-piece garage-band known as Out of Hand. Some buddies of mine had just gotten out of high school, and started playin' jam bashes (kegger parties) around the local neighborhood. The singer/guitarist and bass player later went on to comprise half of Hunky Dory, in the actual clubs a few years later.

The Out of Hand Band featured: on drums Dave Lyon (aka Mongo, who lived up to his muppet namesake), Matley on bass, and Tommy Rock on vocals and lead guitar, who was originally from Arkansas, and a Hagar / DLR clone, complete with proverbial antics ........ ;oP

Eventually the band acquired a second guitarist, Paul Wright (aka Clobber Unit) who was the driving force behind my first real band. It was at this point that my band at the time (Perl White) had the honor of playing before them at a couple summer parties. Imagine toga keggers 'til the night is young again, and otherwise unencumbered basement bands shaking the foundation until the cops crash n disperse the masses cuz someone in the next county complained their fillings were comin' loose ....... ;o)

Anyways, Clob showed me this tune real quick one night to help me stay awake on the midnight shift locked inside the gas station. It was the first tune I really learned all the way through on guitar. The acoustic in question, borrowed from Mattley, I ended up owning, over a matter of 40 bux worth of gas money. Tommy Rock's version of this tune (his original) is actually much longer, complete with smokin guitar solos ~ mebe we'll get him to guest slot one day =oP
